Royal Protection Squad SD1

The Metropolitan Police in the final year of SD1 production in 1986 hired 6 Vitesse twin-plenums from Rover. It was believed that they were for the Royal Protection Squad. This was confirmed when the SD1’s were seen on television chauffeuring royalty. Once returned to Rover 2 years later they discovered steel plating welded over the petrol tank. These were the cars used by royalty.

Rover put these cars up for sale to employees. There was an overwhelming response in the hundreds. Everyone seemed to want an ex-royal SD1. Because of the response Rover decided to put them in a raffle for the right to buy them.
